CLINIC
I'm not fully sure just where this page is going, but part of the plan is to put up some pictures of problems that may be of interest.
For specific queries pertaining to medical problems with reptiles, I would encourage you to visit and register with the Alex Hue Forum. There is a section there called Ask The Vet which I moderate and respond to. If you ask your questions there, not only will others get to see the question and response, but there is opportunity for input from dozens of experienced herpers.
October, 2006. Had something interesting happen this month. My eldest son, Jesse, is getting married and his best man arranged a bachelor party. I thought it was to be just a get together for drinks as we were told to meet at a local tavern, but things turned out differently. When everyone had arrived, we were told by the best man that the event was moving to his apartment. At the apartment there was keg of beer in the bathtub of all places and we were informed that the party would start soon. Unbeknownst to Jesse or anyone else, he had arranged for a couple of strippers to put on a show. I was in the kitchen nursing a beer when they knocked. As the two stunningly attractive girls and their rather burly male escort entered the tallest girl took one look at me, ran over, gave me a big hug and said "You took care of my snake!" Sigh... All in the life of a veterinarian who's willing to see reptiles.
The image to the left is a radiograph (x-ray) of an adult Crested Gecko (Rhacodactylus ciliatus). The image is notable for the high definition of the calcium sacs, which are calcium storage glands located at the back of the mouth.
Images right and center are of a large adult Ball Python (Python regius) whose owner left him alone with a live rat. The wounds were so severe and extensive that the snake had to be euthanized. I do not recommend feeding live prey items to most captive snakes.
